While it may not be as easy as installing a VPN on your smartphone, it’s still possible to use VPN on PS4 and here’s where we’ll show you how.
While there are no official VPN apps available for PlayStation Store PS4, there are three ways to use PS4 VPN to access geo-locked content, gain preferential access to new PS4 games, improve internet lags, and more.
While it may not be as easy as installing a VPN on your smartphone, it’s still possible to use VPN on PS4 and here’s where we’ll show you how.
Why can I use my VPN on my PS4?
Before explaining the different ways you can use VPN on PS4, let’s first tell why you might want to use the console. First, depending on the quality of the VPN provider, you can see a reduction in delays – many VPN console user connections to dedicated P2P and gaming servers that broadcast their traffic using hot spots’ between data centres.
In addition to improving games in the online game, you can also access games before they are available in your country. Games released on the same day are available in Australia hours before those in the United Kingdom and the United States. But using VPNs, you can cheat your console by thinking that you are in Australia and providing access to the game promptly.
And with the built-in PS4 browser, you can access geo-locked content from around the world.
Set your PS4 VPN over a Wi-Fi router
The easiest way to use VPN on your PS4 is to set up VPN on a Wi-Fi router. There are two ways to do this – you can first buy one of the newer Wi-Fi routers that have built-in VPN access from ExpressVPN. It’s a bit expensive, but it’s by far the easiest way to use VPN on a console (or another device connected to home Wi-Fi too), but that’s not the only way to do it.
You can also get a VPN subscription and manually enter VPN details in your Wi-Fi router settings. The problem is that, depending on the VPN provider and the Wi-Fi router brand, the steps vary, which means it’s almost impossible to explain how to do it.
Set PS4 VPN over Mac
If you do not want to run your entire home network over VPN, the next is to use the Mac and the Ethernet cable if you have both at hand. Before we begin, make sure that your Mac has an Ethernet port and a Wi-Fi adapter and is within reach of the console.
Oh, and log in to the VPN provider too – we have a list of the best Mac VPNs in 2018 if you need advice on choosing.
1. Install the VPN software of your choice.
2. Connect the Ethernet cable to the back of your Mac and PS4.
3. In the list on the left, go to System Preferences> Sharing and select Internet Sharing.
4. Select Wi-Fi in the “Share Connection from” drop-down menu.
5. In the “Using computers” checkbox, make sure the Ethernet check box is selected.
6. Select the checkbox to the left of the Internet Sharing list in the list, and enable Internet connection sharing between Mac and PS4. If it is successful, a green icon appears.
7. Open the VPN software on your Mac and connect to the selected server.
8. On your PS4, go to Settings> Network Settings> Internet Connection Settings> Use the LAN cable and choose the Easy Connect method. This automatically scans and sets up an Ethernet connection.
9. When prompted, select Do Not Use Proxy Server.
10. You can try an internet connection if you want, and if everything went well, your PS4 should now be connected to the Internet via VPN.
Set PS4 VPN via computer

Just as with the above, make sure to sign up for a VPN provider – you can check out our selection of the best VPNs in 2018 if you are not sure which one to choose.

1. Install the VPN software of your choice on your computer.
2. Connect the Ethernet cable to the back of your computer and PS4.

3. Open Control Panel> Network and Sharing Center and select Change Adapter Settings in the left pane.
4. Right-click the selected VPN icon, and then click Properties.

5. Open the Share tab and make sure “Allow other network users to connect to this computer’s Internet connection”.
6. Select Connect home network and select the home Internet connection from the drop-down menu you want to share with PS4.
7. Go to Settings> Network settings> Internet connection settings> Use the LAN cable and select the Easy connection method on your PS4. This automatically scans and sets up an Ethernet connection.
8. When prompted, select Do Not Use Proxy Server.
9. You can test your internet connection if you want, and if everything is gone, your PS4 should now be connected to the Internet via VPN.
And here you have it! The three simple ways to connect your PS4 to the Internet using VPN and gain benefits.
