How to unblock BBC iPlayer Abroad In 2016

Are you planning on traveling abroad for the summer, and you want to watch UK TV via the catchup services such as BBC iPlayer or perhaps 4oD and ITV Hub. The good news is that this is entirely possible.

BBC iPlayer lets you stream high-quality TV and radio shows, as well as movies. It is, however, limited to UK viewers, which means – in principle – you can only watch it from inside the UK. But there are ways to watch BBC iPlayer from outside of the UK, perhaps while on holiday or for those living abroad.

Through The Use of VPN:

The easiest way to watch BBC iPlayer abroad is to use a VPN such as Express VPN, or any of the available options.

VPNs (virtual private networks) are used for many purposes, as they allow you to surf the internet with anonymously and protect your privacy, which gives you total security and freedom.  VPN can also be used to virtually relocate your computer or mobile device by offering access to an IP address from the region you require. This is where they can come in handy for watching BBC iPlayer and other UK TV abroad.

You first have to choose a convenient VPN service. Once you’ve got your chosen VPN service up and running, you’ll need to set it to the UK and go to the BBC iPlayer webpage to start watching.

By Changing DNS Settings:

If you want to get UK TV via the browser on your Xbox or PlayStation then you will need to fiddle with some DNS settings. If you head to the network settings of the console/device and manually configure the settings then you can enter a primary and secondary DNS (Domain Name Servers) numbers.

You can search the internet for these numbers (they change atimes) and Express VPN has a good list which you can try. They are premium DNS Service which will serve you for a long time  and the fastest you can find anywhere, rather than free services which wll occasionally send you to someone’s own site rather than your desired TV source in an attempt to sell you a slow proxy list or something worse.

Which VPN service can still unblock Netflix?

It is no longer news, that the popular Video-On-Demand and Streaming Platform is now blocking VPN access to its platform. After Netflix opened to new markets all around the world, it announced that it will now actively fight with all VPN service providers. It was true to its word. In recent weeks Netflix became more and more aggressive, which led to popular VPN services like HideIPVPN, CactusVPN and some others giving up on the Netflix fight.

If you still want to use VPN with Netflix but have given up on HideIPVPN or other VPN services that can’t walk you through Netflix, we do have some working solutions. These VPN providers have enough resources to work with Netflix, even if it takes considerable manpower and dedicated resources on their side.

Both TorGuard and ExpressVPN are still working with Netflix.  TorGuard has been working longer, but ExpressVPN has finally created their workarounds to the issue as well. Both TorGuard and ExpressVPN require you to talk to live chat to get help.

TorGuard has been selling a lot of dedicated IPs for an extra charge, but we’ve heard users have been having great success with these. Please note that a dedicated IP address is an IP address that is only used by one user. Most VPNs like to use shared IP addresses that are shared by hundreds of users so that each user can remain anonymous. While dedicated IP addresses aren’t as secure regarding anonymity, they have their advantages as well.

Dedicated IP addresses can’t be blacklisted as easily as shared IP addresses. Media services like Netflix, BBC, and Hulu have become increasingly adept at rooting out shared IP addresses from VPN companies and blacklisting them, which causes a proxy/VPN block. If you have a dedicated IP address, it is much easier to remain hidden and lessen the chance of a blacklist.

.  They also have some other easy solutions like some servers that automatically connect and work with Netflix.

ExpressVPN has similar solutions since it hands out servers to you based on location. From here, it’s easy to connect to servers and watch Netflix.

Keep in mind that with both of these VPNs there can be some small downtime with their working Netflix servers. As you’ve seen with HideIPVPN, it’s tough to access Netflix with VPN at all since they have been so aggressive. However, with a little patience, both of these services can fully unblck Netflix  with more improvements to come in the future.
